More detailed review ↴

The ” Council Tool Velvicut Premium Saddle Axe ” is a beautiful ax, however, this ax is also made for heavy-duty work.  The drop is forged by 5160 steel that is known as a long-lasting material and for blade retention.

The design of the ax comes with two sides. The left blade comes with a 25-degree flat grind that is used for cutting, carving, etc, and the right blade features a 32-degree flat grind that is used more for heavier jobs such as notching, splitting, etc. This ax has been heat-treated and crafted with a distinctive flat grind on each side of the blade and this ensures better versatility.

One of the many things I like about this ax is that you can use the bevels to make it is easier to remove the ax after you have made a deep cut.

I have used this one a lot, and I still use it, especially when I have to cut small trees or split firewood, and I always get good results with it. It is comfortable to use, and it has a reduction grip feature. According to the manufacturer, this feature reduces the impact of vibration by 70%.

Except for steel, this ax also includes a ballistic nylon sheath that is used to protect the cutting edge.

Another great double-bit ax is the ” Helko Werk Hinterland “. This ax is lightweight and at the same time very effective. It is handmade in Germany. The head of the ax is made from C50 high carbon steel, the head is also buffed and polished that helps to keep the rust away and helps you get a better finish.  The head of this ax weighs approximately 3.5 lb, and the whole ax weighs approximately 5 lb.

I usually use this ax when I have to deal with large timbers, that’s where this ax is highly effective, but it can be used for other things too. Except for the features that this one has, this ax comes with an “Odyssey” color which makes the tool look good.

Our last in the list of the best double-bit ax is the ” Vaughan ZDB 3-1/2-Pound Sub-Zero Double Bit- Michigan Pattern Axe”. The head of this ax is forged, and it has specially hardened hollow ground blades that make easier and deeper cuts, and at the same time, it helps you remove the blade easier after a deep cut.

The best thing about this ax is the blade, it is high-quality and it is made to confront high temperatures. The ax is computer-balanced to help improve swinging efficiency and to reduce fatigue.  It features a 36″ white hickory handle.

While some may prefer the wood feel of hickory handles, I’ve also listed the composite fiberglass-handle version as well.

What is a double-bit axe used for?

You may already know that there are different types of axes. We have the single-bit axes, double-bit axes,  shingling hatchet, etc.  Basically, axes come in different forms. But today we will be talking about double bit axes.

The double-bit axes are composed of two blades.  One side of the blade is used for sharp cuts and the other one is used for heavier jobs such as strong wood or rocks.  The tool is mostly used by lumberjacks for different tasks. Except for the list of the best double-bit axes, we have also written down below the top 3 things people use a double-bit ax for.

1. Cut Lumber

The double-bit ax can be useful when it comes to cutting lumber. As you know cutting lumber requires a two-edged ax. One can be used to thicker parts of the lumber and the other one can be used more for sharpening angles. A double-bit ax is a perfect choice for this.

2. Cut Down Tree Branchers

As you may know, axes are mostly used to cut down trees. You can use different types of axes to do this task, and one of them is the double-bit ax. A double-bit ax can be helpful because of its power and sharpness. You will cut down these trees in no time.

3. Woodsman Sport

Except for your daily tasks, you can use the double-bit ax for woodsman sport too. If you don’t already know, what you basically need to do in a woodsman sport is to throw an ax to a target and points will be awarded. A double-bit ax is a perfect choice because of its two-way blade.
