5 Best Ladders For Gutter Cleaning

We added three ladders in this article that we already use in our workshop for cleaning and other purposes. Our friends in the cleaning industry recommended the other ladders (listed in this article), so we bought them for in-depth testing.

So, let’s uncover what we’ve learned about these ladders and how they’re suitable for cleaning gutters.

1. Little Giant Ladder 15422-001

Best Features  Little Giant Ladder Systems, Velocity with Wheels, M22, 22 Ft, Multi-Position Ladder, Aluminum, Type...

  • Adjustable
  • Durable
  • Comes with Wheels

More detailed review ↴

Little Giant Ladder is at the top of our list of ladders suitable for gutter cleaning.

We love the safety it offers, as it is easily adjustable and comes with rock locks positioned on the rails of the ladder that help us adjust its height and position easily.

We adjusted the ladder height and made it tall enough to reach the house’s roof. That’s why we can surely recommend this ladder for gutter cleaning.

Except for the height — you can also adjust the shape of the ladder. This ladder can be transformed into several shapes, such as A-frame, staircase, extension, etc.

It is 39 pounds in weight and has a 22-ft size and a top width of (1Feet 6-inch), and a stepladder size (of 5 feet 6 inches), while the maximum reach it has is (13 feet-2-inch).

If we talk about durability, the ladder itself is made of aerospace-grade aluminum; this is a high-quality version of aluminum. The maximum weight capacity the ladder could handle was upto is 300 lbs. (which is more than enough for a single person). It also had tip and gliding wheels which allowed us to move quickly.

On the downside, this ladder doesn’t come with velocity trestle brackets. You must buy them separately to turn this ladder into a scaffolding system. Overall, the weight of the ladder is not light.

What We Liked?
  • Adjustable
  • It comes with wheels
  • Secure – Rock locks
What We Didn’t Like?
  • No trestle brackets included
  • Not at all lightweight

2. Little Giant 14010-001

Best Features  Little Giant 14013-001 Model 17 250 Lbs Capacity Alta-One Ladder, 15 Feet

  • Very Durable
  • 5-in-1
  • Lightweight

Little Giant 14010-001 is another fantastic masterpiece for gutter cleaning that we also use in our workshop.

The difference between this ladder and the previous one is that ladder can only be used for garages or one-story houses gutter cleanings. (This one is a little shorter in height than the previous one).

The ladder’s height is 13 feet (It can be extended to 17 feet), and its weight is 30 pounds, so carrying it won’t be a struggle. This heavy wall Aluminum made ladder is ideal for aerospace construction too.

A big reason why we liked this ladder is that it’s durable and stable, and that is because of the material, as it dramatically affects stability and durability.

This ladder is also adjustable like the previous one; you can transform it into five shapes –A-Frame, Staircase, Extension Ladder, Scaffolding System, or a 90-degree ladder.

The triple locking hinge feature is another reason behind its flexibility in folding, safety, and quick moveability.

Additional features are: storage depth of the ladder is 8.5 inches. Storage height is 4’7”, while the width at the base of the ladder is 23.5 inches.

The downside of this ladder is that it is expensive and has less weight-holding capacity than the previous one (250 pounds), but still, that’s good for an average-weight person.

What We Liked?
  • Durable Material
  • Adjustable ladder
  • Versatile for several uses
What We Didn’t Like?
  • Less holding capacity than other ladders
  • Little bit bulky

3. Louisville Ladder FE3224

Best Features  Louisville Ladder FE3224 Fiberglass Extension Ladder 300-Pound Capacity, 24-Feet,Orange

  • High
  • Made of Fiberglass
  • D-Shapes Rungs

More detailed review ↴

Lately, many people have used fiberglass ladders more than aluminum ladders. That’s why we decided to test the fiberglass that made this Louisville ladder. The best thing about fiberglass is that it does not absorb moisture and does not corrode or get rusty.

This ladder has a maximum height of 21 feet, approximately 288 inches. Because of that, we could test it even for a two-story house.

The ladder is relatively stable and durable, as it can handle a load capacity of up to 300 lbs.

It also has a storage depth of (7.25) and a height of (12 feet). The downside of this ladder is that it is heavy because of its 51-pound weight, but the little giant has the same loading capacity with less weight.

The thing that makes this unit special is the rungs. The rungs come with a D-shape form that prevents the user from slipping ( easy to stand on). This ladder is beneficial, primarily if you work outside in wet weather.

The ladder also comes with metal shield shoes and steel swivel safety shoes, making the ladder even more stable and safe. The metal guides on the ladder protect the ladder from being overly extended.

What We Liked?
  • Does not corrode or rust
  • Non-slippery and fiberglass made
What We Didn’t Like?
  • Heavy-Weight
  • Locking feature is tricky

4. Werner D6224-2

Best Features

  • Industrial Ladder
  • Made of Fiberglass
  • ALFLO

More detailed review ↴

If you want to use the ladder for more than just cleaning gutters, you should check the Werner D6224-2. Spending money on something that can be used for multiple purposes is better. You can use this excellent ladder for industrial purposes too.

Our favorite feature of this ladder is its fiberglass non-conductive rails, which make it possible to use it close to electricity

The Werner ladder also comes with D-rungs like the previous one. This ladder keeps the tools safe by wrapping around them and holding them securely.

It also comes with ALFLO rung-to-rail connections that prevent it from twisting while providing stability and making the ladder safe.

The Werner D6224-2 comes with a rope in the middle of the ladder; you can use this rope to extend the ladder without having to get off the ladder. That is helpful, especially if you are working on heights.

This 24-foot ladder extends at a maximum height of 21 feet, approximately 288 inches. Its full width can load about 300 lbs.

The downside of this ladder is that it is heavy and needs more workforce for transportation.

What We Liked?
  • Sturdy and secure
  • Non-slippery and made of fiberglass
What We Didn’t Like?
  • The legs are not adjustable

5. Xtend & Climb CS125300BK

Best Features  Xtend & Climb CS125300BK Contractor Series 12.5ft Ladder Telescoping, 12.5 ft, Black

More detailed review ↴

Not everyone has the space to store 24 feet ladders, so many buy telescoping ladders instead of extension ladders.

What makes these ladders unique is that they are very portable.

When fully closed, this ladder is only 32 inches high (maximum height 102 inches). But, when fully opened, it can reach up to 12 feet tall. That’s why we bought this ladder, so we could test it and use it later.

Due to its height, this ladder can be used only for one-story houses and garages.

We loved the weight of this ladder, which is only 18 pounds. The claimed loading capacity for the ladder was 330 pounds, but after testing, we confirmed it could only load up to 250 pounds.

The airplane-grade Aluminum made ladder is yellow and relatively safe to use because of its strength.

The ladder has an extended and locked-by-foot feature with no pinch closure system that helps in proper hand positioning.

Additional features are heavy-duty closure straps, an extended height is 8.5-feet, a storage height is 27-inch, and a width of the ladder is 18-inch.

What We Liked?
  • High-quality Aluminum made – Durable
  • Lightweight ladder
  • Takes less space when fully closed (32 inches)
What We Didn’t Like?
  • Less loading capacity than claimed

Height

The height is the most asked for, especially ladders for cleaning gutters. So. What’s the ideal size ladder for cleaning gutters?

Well, it depends on the height of your house. If it’s a single-story house, you need a minor ladder. If it’s a double-story house, you need a more extended ladder (depending on your needs).

But what’s the exact size?

The ladder height should be approximately 11-15 feet from the ground for a single-story house. For this project, you will probably get an extension ladder, so remember that the ladder loses some height as it leans against the wall.

And, for a double-story house, the gutters are approximately 15-16 feet above the ground. The perfect ladder size for cleaning gutters for a two-story house should be at least 20 feet.

Adjustable

Most of the time, the surface around our house isn’t even. So ladders for gutter cleaning should come with adjustable legs.

If you work on uneven surfaces, the ladder should be stable. These ladder types tend to cost more but are worth the money. The adjustable ladders can be transformed into A-Frame Shape, Stair Case, and Extension. You can buy according to your needs, but we recommend flexibility, which can change their heights.

Weight

When it comes to ladders, you must check two types of weight.

  • The weight of the ladder
  • The load the ladder can handle. (load capacity)

The ladder shouldn’t be too heavy, or you will have difficulty moving it while working. And the ladder shouldn’t be too light because it can quickly move, and most of the time, lightweight ladders are unstable.

We recommend choosing a ladder under 30 lbs or less as neither will be heavy or unstable.

The maximum load capacity is another thing that you should consider. It tells you how much weight the ladder can hold. The maximum weight should be higher than your body weight. Plus, it’s a good idea to calculate the weight of your tools too. However, a ladder above 250-300 lbs weight will be ideal.

Stability/Safety

While cleaning gutters, you will be moving a lot.  You need a stable ladder that won’t shake every time you make a move.  Usually, ladders with non-slip feet made from aluminum are very durable. The D-rung also prevents slippery surfaces.

Always check and be sure about the ladder’s stability to ensure your security before buying the ladder.

Material

The ladder’s material is significant as based on the environment in which you will be using and storing the ladder defines how long the ladder will last.

The Aluminium made are high-quality made ladders: they won’t rust or corrode, which means you can put them outdoors.

Also, the fiberglass-made ladder; won’t absorb moisture. So, if you live in an area with chances of rain, smog, or moisture weather, you can choose this one.

The high quality of the material tells the ladder’s durability and how long it will last.

Conclusion

For gutter cleaning, you need to focus on the height (because you need to reach the top of your house), weight ( because you will be moving the ladder, it should be easy to carry), and adjustable ( so you can extend it when it is needed. The height of the ladder should be flexible.
